(we used the knob tap technique and it make a very dull sound and vibrates alot) but on the other hand my dad thinks its not dead and gets upset when i don't use it. So, what is a sure way to tell if a bat is dead?

We too have an Easton Triple 8 that we purchased in August 2004 and which my son has hardly used. His coach recenly told us the bat is dead and we are about to contact Easton. Have you contacted Easton? Just curious if you've followed up or had anyone check out your bat.
