I think the primary goal of any good hitter (in baseball or softball) should be to hit hard line drives. Should that batter slightly top the ball, a mechanically sound swing would produce a ground ball with enough velocity to make it through the infield often. And, of course, a nice little "accident" from time to time, hitting slightly under the ball, with that same swing yields one of the most prized moments in all of sports...the home run.

The best major league hitters will homer once in every 9 or 10 at bats (or so), and I'm sure anyone will tell you they'd hate to fly out the other 90% of the time! That's why I say make good line drives the goal and everything else will take care of itself.
