My Swing

Posted by: BHL (Knight1285@aol.com) on Sun Apr 17 04:04:10 2005

Hi All:

Here is of my swing from the right-handed side:

Mindset

Those who use efficient mechanics will have the advantage of hitting the ball to the shortest field where the ball can be hit with the most power.

Approach

The goal is to connect the linkage between the hips and the upper body at the instant of maximum hip ROTATIONAL VELOCITY (this is the basic goal of maximizing the effectiveness of the kinetic chain).
Initiation

When you drop your front heel, lift your rear heel up at the same time (Do NOT “squish the bug”). Move your rear knee slightly down and in and then slightly turn your rear hip around the imaginary axis you’ve set up in your stride […] simultaneously […] When you drop your front heel, you should feel a ‘swiveling’ of your hips from back to front.
Stroke

The inside the ball swing will […] keep your wrists cocked for better bat speed.

Contact

Hips and shoulders face pitcher
Arms still across chest
Lead shoulder pulled back towards catcher—105 degrees
Back forearm lowered to horizontal—pointing towards pitcher
Lead leg fully extended—back leg forms “L” position
Back elbow at the side in classic “L” position
