Re: drills for 10 yr. old
>>> My son has good hand-eye coordination, but is weak for his age. In observing his swing, it seems to have too much arm swing. It looks to me like his first move is to drop his bat flat and then swing his arms around his body.
I'm trying to get him to use his hips' rotation to initiate swing.
Any thoughts on this ?
Any drills to help or does he just need to develop upper body strength ? <<<
Hi John
Having swing mechanics that make efficient use of the larger muscle groups in the legs and torso is beneficial to all hitters. This is one reason rotational transfer mechanics is especially beneficial to young hitters who lack upper-body strength. -- This site contains a great deal of information about rotational mechanics.
John, I would suggest the “one arm drill” discussed above in the “Back Elbow – Bellybutton” post would be a good place for your son to start.
