Hi Jeff M.,
I agree that vision is extremely important, and so does Ted Williams, a point which he articulates in "The Science of Hitting."
However, I do not believe that vision should be anterior to technique.
In a small percentage of hitters, though, better eyesight helps them make adjustments faster than others.
Now, is vision disregarded? I believe it is--and if Big Mac took to exercise his eyes (recommended by his optomologist Dr. Bill Puett)--everybody should "strengthen their sight."
Hence, I do not think vision is the most important.
Yet, vision is the most neglected, and any exercise you can share with me to give me insight into your theory will be much appreciated.
