Hi Ron. First we have to get the obvious out of the way; he's ONLY 7.
There's the exception to the rule like anything but, generally speaking, explaining ANYTHING, in an in depth manner,is an act in futility at best. From my own experiences with my own kids and, the kids I coach, if I have a 7 y/o on my team, I'm gonna just try to emphasize keeping his hands close to his body when he or she swings. If you have a kid that can grasp a little more, then maybe you can explain that when they see the ball just about to be released, they can pick up that front heel some, in order to generate some momentum and,if they like the pitch, put the heel back down and, bring the back side through to complete the swing.
But, it go's without saying, that if someone is missing badly on GOOD pitches, they're executing bad swing mechanics. And, again, I emphasize, there's those exception to the rule but, at that age, information overload can be very counter productive.
I dont know if I helped?

John.
