I'm still unclear as to exactly what is meant by "staying inside the ball" -- this seems to me to be a strange term as it's not possible to hit a baseball if you're outside of it. Does it refer keeping the hands in as to not drag the bat as you make contact?

A rigorous definition of "staying inside the ball" would be greatly appreciated.

His hands are probably casting away from his body, and the fat part of his bat is not finding the ball where it needs to? Excluding something that he didn't tell us, like he hangs over the plate, etc.. But, that's my answer to hm.
