Re: does strength make a difference

Since nobody wanted to touch my steroid question posted 12/3 I'll try a different approach. Lets say we have two batters with the same bat speed and rotational type swings. One is bigger than the other and bench presses 100 lbs more. Will the bigger batter hit the ball farther? If so, why? Does the force he generates at bat contact make a difference even though the bat speeds are the same or exactly when does this increased strength help him?

Hey BMill,

Good queation... i don't know the answer. it might have a similar cause and effect as the relationship between a balanced bat and an endloaded bat. they say the end loaded bat out performs the balanced bat even at the same weight????

In you above example i don't think bench press make much difference other than staying connected easier having bigger chest to connect to. i'd look at who can squat more... stronger legs equals more power to generate more force to transfer up and out to the bat. i'd venture to say that the long ball hitters probable have the most powerful legs. and steriods will give you stronger legs if you put in the work at the gym... you still have to learn to transfer it though.

Regards, Rich
