Try tying one end of a rope or string to the top of a tee, the other end to a hitting net but, angled up to produce pitch plane. Maybe first get him to just take some good sound swings , staying on or above the rope, then try having him his some balls off the tee?
If you want to go a little further back, then you could have him hold his bat across the front of his hips and, just have him swing like that,again, above the rope, to really emphasize hip rotation and, proper bat angle.
