Swing Timing

Posted by: PEC (procurementman@msn.com) on Tue Nov 9 19:33:29 2004

I currently coach a U14 girls fastpitch softball team and am trying to work with the girls on their hitting mechanics. Most of them understand some of the mechanics associated with a rotational swing. However, they tend break the swing into two different motions. With the first motion they will load with their hands moving toward the catcher, rear elbow raised and the heel of their lead foot elevated. They then will hold that postion until the ball is pitched (or inserted into the pitching machine)which is sometimes a difference of 3 or 4 seconds.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how this habit can be broken so that they are swinging with one continuous motion?
