Re: pull field orientation
4 choices are nice, but first things first. THT and BHT are usless unless you have the proper foundation with your feet. I think everyone is focusing on the hands, when the feet are just as important. If you don't think so, just look at the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. Their BHT/THT were of no use because their feet mechanics were absent. Start with the feet and get the proper foundation and then talk to me about THT and BHT. Then talk to me about the 4 choices. Mike Matheny is a great catcher....but his batting mechanics need some radical adjusting, starting with his totally bad feet.(one example). Thanks, RJB
Hi RJB,
You are keen as to observe major league ballplayer's defects in lower body mechanics. I admit that at the base of theory that I presented is the idea of rotation itself. For lower body mechanics, Mike Epstein suggested that the batter do the following things:
As soon as the front heel drops,
1) Lift the back heel off the ground slightly (do not squish it, just let it turn naturally)
2) Turn the back knee down and in slightly
3) Turn the back hip around its axis slightly
Note: these are not my cues, but ones articulated by Epstein at www.mikeepsteinhitting.com.
Add Jack's upper body mechanics to Mike Epstein's lower body mechanics, and you have the best of both sites.
Sincerely,
BHL

P.S. I am sure those who try PFO will reap the advantages of pull hitting, which I have alluded to earlier in my thread. Thanks for the timely criticism.
