Snapping a towel, casting a fishing rod, cracking a bullwhip - all are examples of whip. Upper arm, elbow, forearm, wrist/hand initiate and pull-off these feats. Torso and torso rotation is not involved. Momentum is not transferred from the hips/torso.
An experiment:
Equipment needed - baseball bat and baseball.
Procedure - Toss the ball up and hit it simulating a “TENNIS SERVE”. Yes, throw the ball up (high) in front of your face, raise the bat (tomahawk fashion) and strike the ball with the bat in a near vertical position (aim as though intending to hit the ball deep to the outfield).
