"the knob rotates toward third base"........only if the swing plane is horizontal..........in other words.......only if swinging at a pitch at the top of the strike zone. If your knob goes to third base on a pitch down the middle you're not a very good hitter.

Most swings are in a diagonal swing plane in which case the knob goes more toward the sky than third base.
