60/40. 3/2 If you're going to be say, 25 ft away, you'd need to be 37.5 mph, 45 mph from 30 feet, 30 mph from 20 ft. I'm sure there's some deviation based on how the ball slows down, but that's pretty close. Of course, reaction time being equal, the faster speed is
always more difficult to hit. Example, soft toss from 5 ft away has similar reaction time to a live pitch, but the extremely slow speed makes it very easy to identify the pitch. Or hitting a 190 mph pitch from 2B would be impossible to correctly identify location. 60 mph from 40 ft and 45 mph from 30 ft take the same time to reach the batter (.5 sec?), but the 60 mph has more movement, hop, etc, so it is much more difficult to "center". In other words, Billy Wagner's last .1 sec at 100 (90 through the zone) is much difficult to see and judge than Jenny Finch's last .1 sec at
70 (low 60's through the zone). Buit 3/2's your ratio.
Can someone tell me the formula on figuring out pitch speed from various distances ...
