When making this calculation, consider the release point, not the distance of the pitching rubber. Finch's foot is on the line of the circle when she releases. her release point is very close to 35'. A BB pitcher is probably in the neighborhood of 55'.

A slight difference (35/55 vs. 43/60.5).


The calculation itself is simply using Algebra to find the 4th variable (the other 3 are known).

The FP release point is 35', and it is 55' in BB (or whatever you determine the two distances to be). Take the 70mph FP pitch, and multiply it by the 55' baseball distance. Divide by the 35' FP distance. The answer is almost 110mph, which explains why Finch gave up one earned run in her last 30 starts or so.
