I am sorry to admit/realize my inadequate proof reading of the above post left in the WRONG anatomical terms, switching horizontal aDuction/aBduction(confoosin' ain't it ?).

> Horizontal aDuction of the scapula (which includes the shoulder socket) is pinching the shoulder blade toward the spine.Horizontal aBduction of the scap/shoulder blade is the opposite motion.Shrugging or horizontal shrugging could be pinching the shoulder blade either toward or away depending on how you choose to define it,which is one reason to use the anatomical terms, but they are still confusing.
>
> Then there is the added confusion of multiple motions at once, say the scap/shoulder socket AND how the arm bone humerus moves in the socket. The "pull back the bow string" could be done either by scap action/horizontal adduction/pinching only (?preferred?)or by leaving scap still and pulling only arm back (arm "extension") or a mixture of both.
>
> This does not even involve raising or lowering the elbow(abduction/adduction of the arm/humerus) or twisting of the arm along its longitudinal axis in the shoulder socket(internal/external rotation). You would not want to involve these actions in pulling back the bow string, but they are inevitable parts of arm action in hitting.

> Understanding the use of different muscles to create different motions as in the more simple(?) case of drawing back the bow string may help clarify some of these terms.

>>TomI have always separated scap load from pre launch torque or tht. This may not be correct but it is how I understood it in my mind.I'll try to give my idea so the group can compare sequences. As a hitter begins to stride[or not]hip cock begins for lower body, also the rear elbow pulls back to dugout[guerrero clip]and front shoulder goes down and in.The barrel goes toward the pitcher in a cocking motion as the hips begin to open into toe touch. At heel plant usually is key to rear elbow coming down[lugo has elbow descending before heel plant.]Anyway when the rear elbow begins to come down to slot,I consider scap load done but I can accept on a more in depth level that loading is still taking place ,it just seemed to me that if you got loaded properly then it would be hard to get unloaded incorrectly as the swing unfolds so I considered it a non teach, especially as hard as we make hitting to begin with.As rear elbow begins to come down and top hand pulls bat toward catcher I considered this the beginning of tht.So my defining moment that separated scap load from tht is the elbow goes back [scap load]elbow begins to go down to slot[tht].Jack is your pre launch torque happening when the elbow goes down or back,I can't seem to find the bat going back toward catcher in hitters until elbow begins to slightly dip.
