Pigeon-towed stance

Posted by: Meathead () on Mon Jul 26 10:18:50 2004

Recently, I've noticed more and more top power hitters using a pigeon-towed batting stance. This means that the hitter has both his toes pointing inward in the stance. The most notible hitters using this stance are Gary Sheffield and Moises Alou. The most common explaination for using this move is that it helps the hitters stay back behind the ball in their swings. I am very interested in Jack or anyone else's opinion on whether this stance is beneficial in the swing. I have tried it, and although uncomfortable at first, it does seem to help me stay back.
