Re: getting the barrel around

Posted by: Teacherman () on Sun May 30 19:35:49 2004

It seems as if my stepson is rotating ok and he is hooking the bottom hand and pulling the front shoulder back towards the catcher. However it looks as if the top hand is right behind it in the same path and the barrel is not swinging around quick enough. Is it ok to have him push the bat straight over to the other batters box (toward the camera as the tape says) just as he begins his swing and then letting go and finishing w/a one handed follow thru. Just to get the feel of the bat head coming around?

Difficult to diagnose without video. But, I would check swing plane, I would check timing. Sounds like he could be pulling off but you don't know for sure until you've ruled out timing. If timing is correct make sure the hands stay in the swing plane and don't round off (change plane)

And, I would avoid the better better, faster faster, further further syndrome. Stay rhythmic to avoid the jerk.
