Jack: Point of Contact and Timing

Posted by: Dave A (oxagin@hotmail.com) on Fri May 7 20:11:36 2004

Jack I'm still having trouble bringing my point of contact back. It's not as much of a problem for me on outside pitches but anything over the plate or inside I'm either too quick on or I get jammed for the most part. Today I got a pitch over the inside corner and I was way out in front, I felt it was a good swing as I started with proper rotational forces but the bat just kept accelerating and I ended up pulling it behing the 3rd base coaches box. Then I'll typically get conscience, tell myself to keep my hands inside the ball and I ended up hitting a jam shot to short I beat out on a pitch I should have gotten extra bases off of. The kid wasn't throwing that hard, I probably could of gotten up there lefty and made contact off of him. He did mix inside outside with a good curve though.

I have been working on starting with more shoulder rotation like you said but im still not 100% consistent which leads all sorts of fun stuff. Is the problem that since my point of contact is still inconsistent (as a result of the starting forces) so that when I do put a good swing on an inside pitch my timing is off?

Btw I think I cleared up the wrist droop problem I had 100% since every time I hit an outside pitch it is a rope and I rarely miss them. I changed my grip which seems to be working.

I'm still going to try to get you another tape of me this month before a showcase I have to go to in June in Florida.

I still just hit with my swing away and a live BP pitcher every day but my dad was really considering the heavy bag. He was just curious of how you got the stand in your video. That would be a perfect setup for me in my backyard or in my basement.
