The way I see it BHL is between rotation and linear,Teacherman is linear and Jack is full blown rotation all the way. From what I have seen at the college games most power hitters fit in with the Jack Mankin model. Nothing personal to BHL and Teacherman but I think anything less than 100 percent rotational is self defeating.

Hi grc,

Professor Adair discounts both torque and rotation as prerequisites for a good swing, since he believes neither exists.

As for torque, at this point, I would say that is a minor factor in developing bat-speed. "Cracking the whip" will not work because the bat is inflexible, and my "door on a hinge" example, although much closer to what I believe is the truth, is also flawed, since the batter must hold onto the lever while swinging it.

However, my polar inclanations and roots of questioning are validated by the example of centrifugal force.

Try this, grc. Swing the bat with a very light grip as fast as you can. Now, why doesn't the bat slip out of your hands while you are swinging it? It is because of thhe centrifugal force that you created.

Another useful way to prove this is to take a bucket of water, and swing it around in a circle very rapidly. Notice that the circular momentum keeps the water from spilling.

This is why people who ride the Scream Machine (I did, it's a fantastic ride!) do not fall out of their seats when in an upside down position.

So, is torque really reactory to a great CHP?

As of this point, I can state my opinion in with any assurance. I can only going engage in meaningful discussion, and hope that all parties involved can learn from each other.
