Donny, I think you hit the nail on it's head!! I took my son for a private today and the instructor noted exactly what you said in your post. He said it just looks like he's ahead of the ball because of his stride. He corrected his stride & of course, the boy started creaming the ball again. The instructor also said the bat weight has nothing to do with it & his bat was perfect for his age.

>>MTS,My son 9,swings a 31/20 and has no problem swinging it however what it causes at times is an arm swing because he can swing it with just arms.Timing will adjust with different bats by the player, but he sounds like he has a mechanic flaw to work on.When my son swings a practice 31/23 he often hits hard more consistant because he has to use his mechanics properly to get bat around. The extra weight also helps on balls he does'nt hit just right,a little more pop by mass when batspeed not built by good swing.
I would say the best of both worlds is to swing the heaviest bat you feel comfortable with and can control, not less to just because you can buy it and not more to fix timing by swinging slower, just experiment a little and the 2 of you figure it out.
