Re: taking the first strike/pitch

Posted by: Rich () on Sat Apr 10 19:43:43 2004

can anyone give me any research as to whether or not taking the 1st pitch/strike makes the hard skill of hitting a softball that much harder? after all, you are becoming a hitter who now only has 2 strikes left to work with. i can see if your team is losing later in the game, or if you are a leadoff hitter with some speed, but i need proof that taking the 1st pitch is beneficial. thanks

Hey Bob,

It's only benefical if the 1st pitch is a ball or a strike out of your power zone.

If the 1st pitch is in your wheelhouse you'd be a fool not to swing at it. it might be his/her only mistake the whole game.

If the first pitch is a strike out of your zone then NEVER "TAKE" strike two... that will make you an agressive hitter and agressive hitters usually fare better. regards, Rich
