More Nyman SIMS

Jack,

I thought you might enjoy the fact that Nyman has finally admitted that handle torque at initiation is significant and important. He tries to stick to his prior denial by saying it isn't "hand torque". he calls it instead "wrist torque" or "holding torque".

See:

http://www.setpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9013

Note his descritpion at the end of the simulation he calls "arrogance and ignorance".

Nyman:

"...When a high level player swings, there is a holding torque that maintains the angle at the wrist between the bat and the radius of rotation, otherwise the bat would fall back and that compromises the swing. It takes a longer time for the bat to get out if you didn't do that."

and at the end of the thread, the simulation measures a required "holding torque" at initiation of more than 60 ft-lbs. Again, see bottom of page, sim on right:

I would also be interested what you think of these recent simulations where Nyman measures, among other things, CHP/ball on string/longitudinal force/tension (up to 300 lbs). How do you think this force might change/vary with active handle torque ( at the wrist hinge) applied throughout the swing ?
