RAY: Wrist strength

Posted by: grc () on Sat Apr 10 06:12:02 2004

"are your hands weaker the further they extend from torso?

at what contact point (with an outside pitch) is the top hand wrist at it’s weakest, - late (opposite field), even (center field), early (pull)? "

my opinion: the hands are weaker as they get farther from torso, and wider arc or not, there is therefore less power on an os pitch...and to try to pull an os pitch means two things...(1) the hands are farther yet because of contacting farther out in front of plate (2) you get to a point where not only are the hands weaker but also wrists MUST roll, which of course is obviously a big negative...

so to contact an os pitch but make contact before wrist roll means contacting toward back of plate....but then this craetes a problem no one ever talks about: ELEVATION, that is, making contact on the downswing portion of the swing rather than the upswing....

of course, the solution to this problem has been well docomented over the years...
