Hi Teacherman

I, like Enloe, am puzzled by your question. They are two completely different mechanics. One uses the muscles of the arms to extend the hands in a straighter path (more A to B) -- Linear transfer mechanics.

The other keeps the lead-arm straight (or fairly straight) and allows shoulder rotation (along with THT) to swing (or fling) the hands into a circular path – Rotational transfer mechanics.

Please explain what needs to be reconciled?
