Re: Terms
My coach (D-1 in AZ) never heard of top hand torque scap load torque position etc.He also says in the circles he travels in Jack and Nyman are unknowns. Can you tell me where either of these guys findings have ever been published so that I can point it out to him? As of right now he thinks it's funny that I would even think about getting info on hitting from the internet.I know Epstein used to play but I don't know if he has a reputation either. Thank you.
Hi Jerry,
Thanks for your questions, and I can understandable you and your coaches skepticism about learning information over the Internet. Jack Mankin's findings are published in over 50 pages right here at BatSpeed.com, two instructional videos, and hundreds of posts on the discussion board. Your D-1 coach of course can review Mankin's finding and is welcome to ask questions, make comments, or provide his beliefs on batting mechanics on the discussion board. It may be interesting to know whether he is teaching the methods used by the best professional ball players in the game. Along these lines, it would also be helpful to know where your coach published his findings, so that we can determine if his teachings have coincide with the mechanics used by the better hitters. This may promote a better exchange of information. Further, this could assist high school ball players in determining if your coach will give them the instruction to advance to the next level.
I tend to place little importance on the level of ball taught by a most coaches because in the past most coaches have had little positive impact on a player's mechanics/performance. As a Cardinal's fan, I fear that one day the St. Louis Cardinals may attempt to "improve" Pujols, Edmonds or Roland's mechanics. If you listen to many professional batting instructors/commentators today, several still teach linear (A to B, hands to the ball, push and extend) mechanics, which have been shown to be detrimental to batting performance.
Best of luck and have a great season,
Brian
