Introduction Steps and Controversy
I'm the head fastpitch softball coach at the local high school. I'm currently in a controversy with my starting pitcher's dad and his view of my assistant coach. He believes in the old approach and thinks my assistant is ignorant. The father believes that my assistant is teaching the rotational approach wrong. This without viewing anything, only on the word of the father and of course his own expertise.
The first steps we are teaching are the hip rotation/explosion step using sticks and training aids in a three step. From this first step, we have moved them to the tee. Am I on the right path with this or is this the wrong first step to be teaching? We are currently dry swinging using a 3 step process. Should there be some movement in the back foot to relieve stress on the back knee? Thanks for any response!
