He is definitely late, but it could be because of a mechanical problem. This is a very common problem for 10 year olds. My son when through the same problem last season. We adjusted his mechanics and he is now hitting the ball right back at the pitcher. I also took a quick look at Jack's dvd, will study it better, and gave my son a few tips from the dvd.

How fast are the pitches in the cage? 10 year olds should be hitting 45-50 mph, as the better pitchers usually do not throw more than an average 55 mph at this age. I know my son had a problem in the cage with the higher speed (I think it was 60 - way too fast for him).
