Should "door knocking" knuckles be aligned when holding the bat or is this strictly a linear mechanics concept?

I feel that a batter should use whatever grip he feels is comfortable without squeezing the bat tight and without lining up the main knuckles. For most kids that I have worked with, when they lined up the "knocking" knuckles perfectly, it was uncomfortable for them. So I had them modify it a little until it was comfortable. Hope this helps.
