I agree that you are spending too much money on a bat right now. Your son also needs a shorter bat. My son is a nine year old entering his 4th year of little league and this is the first year I've bought him a bat that costs more than $50. He is about 3" taller and 10 lbs. heavier than your son right now and he is swinging a 28" 16oz. bat. A lighter bat that isn't shorter also doesn't help a whole lot in getting the end of the bat aroud. It helps some but the way I try to explain it to parents is the bat is a spoke on the wheel and the longer the spoke the longer it takes to make a full rotation.
