He's still young and still developing a motor program for swinging a bat. Teaching him sound mechanics at this age will certainly benefit him in the future. However, with that said, because he is still very young and simply lacks some of the neuromuscular coordination and strength to really even worry about "power" I wouldn't sweat his power too much until he has matured a little more. Teach him sound rotational mechanics and allow him to slowly learn and commit the motor program to memory. Once he has handle on the mechanics the power will come and will continue to improve as he physically matures. But this is less of an attempt to improve his power than it is to facilitate his learning of a sound swing motor program.
