coach benched me for that reason

Posted by: toti () on Thu Dec 11 23:49:31 2003

hi

i am glad that a coach answered the question here because thatīs exactly the problem with coaches.
for the record i am a small guy, 70 kg, 1,76 m, skinny(though committed to weight lifting and protein shakes).

my coached hammered me with putting the ball on the ground only to bench me when those rollers became outs.
i regain my starting spot after I learned rotational and started crushing the ball to all fields. isnt that a contradiction?
anyway, i dont care about my coach anymore and i am not going to listen to anymore nonsense because i am a small guy. hell i batted more in the end of the season than some of the proīs in my team.
my take is that coaches tend to pigeonhole players and sometimes they dont achieve their potential. i am not firing back to our coach here because he has been honest enough to come out and say what he thinks. i really appreciate it anyway. i think the coaches think about team success and not player success most of the time. it is a different approach.
being a contact hitter, with rotational i can buy extra time on the ball because of the contact point and my rollers have more carry. it is difficult to hit the high heat well though.

thanks everybody

toti.

He was a LHH 2nd baseman in college, and he wanted his smaller players to swing down on the ball instead of into the path of the ball. I asked him if he would rather hit ground balls at the 1st & 2nd basemaen or would he rather hit a line drive to rt center or over the 1st basemans head for a double in the corner.

And to be truthful, the ones with the down path normally are better hitters.
