Save your cash for now.
My daughter is about the same size and last year I bought her a bat that I didn't realize was too big for her. It was a 27", maybe 17oz? Anyhow the bat she was used to was shorter and 16 oz. Another girl on the team had a 26/16 that she let my daughter use and it was like night and day. You'd think it was 6" and 6 oz different!

My point is that your son is still small so little differences make a bigger difference to him. A longer bat is harder to swing (like an oar). Take him to the batting cages and let him try different size bats. I don't think you'll need to spend more than $30 - $40 on a bat for him for now and he will grow into the bat you have now.

I bought my daughter a 26/16 and she loves it! Season hasn't started yet but we go out every once in awhile and I pitch her whiffle balls and she has benn cranking them. I paid about $30 I think.

If you know what size you want, this place has good prices and free shipping:
