Re: New Hitter for Review

The link below is to the son of a friend of mine. He is a College player. What do the members of this forum think of his swing and how he can improve it?

I like to look for the "universal sequence".

1-Inward turn show backside),internally rotate back arm(hitch), turn front knee in(internally rotate as back arm internally rotates)COCK HIP

2-COCK HANDS-load/pinch back scap (pinch and lift) as stride foot goes out(cock hands)

3- start back arm into slot(via internal rotation) as lead leg turns open going into toe touch(pre-launch THT/start uncocking bat)

This hitter does not load/separate as well as he could because he almost entirely omits the scap load phase. This limits how much/quickly the torso turns the bat into contact,so he makes contact pretty far out front as hands take over when torso poops out.

We don't necessarily have access to a standard set of clips. The closest thing is the youuthbaseball site, where yo might compare him to a similar angle for Bernie.Bernie does the universal sequence beatifully.I would say-"be more like Bernie".Watch what is different about Ernie's back arm action. The scap load coincides with the forward stride and Bernie has more of a stride. This hitter can either lengthen the stride or "pre-load" the scap more in the stance.

This should give better torso load/quickness and allow him to wait longer and take the ball deeper, evn inside and keep it fair.
