What exactly does this term mean?

Here's exactly what keeping the hands inside the ball means.
on all pitches that are middle if you have your mechanics in order
you will strike the ball at the front of the ball slightly out in
front of the plate, and the position of your hands will be slightly infront of the ball. if the pitch is in you should strike the ball slightly to the right of center or on the outside of the ball and your hands will be significantly infront of the ball. now on the outside pitch if your mechanics haven't changed(other than the amount of THT)you should strike the ball on the left of center or on the inside of the ball and at contact your hands will be INSIDE THE BALL. a more accurate term would be, your hands will be BEHIND THE BALL.
