linear vs. rotational but what about vertical
The discussion of whether the baseball swing should be rotational versus linear is somewhat forgetting something huge that is going on. It is called vertical ground forces. There cannot be power without "pushing" against the ground. The hips during a baseball or golf swing raise slightly during the swing. Yes, there is rotation. There may even be some linear or weight shift. But ground forces are there no matter what one does. And the greater the ground force, the greater the power.
If anyone disagrees with this they should try hitting a baseball on an ice skating rink with tennis shoes. Also, why do batters dig in?
