hitting bag with linear swing

Posted by: Alan () on Wed Aug 20 12:27:15 2003

Made an interesting observation while hitting against a bag, demonstrating to my kids the difference between contact with rotational vs. linear mechanics. When extending my arms at contact (their "old" swing - reinforced by several season's worth of coach advice), my back elbow hurt like h***! Now, I have an old racquetball injury in that elbow, but have had zero pain for over a year. I can whomp on the bag as hard as I want, and as long as I keep my back elbow bent and at my side I feel nothing at all. But the more I try to extend out to the ball (bag), the more it hurt, even with a half-effort swing.

Another symptom of poor mechanics, where the body tries to tell you "I wasn't made to work that way"?
