Matt,

Your points are valid. And what you experienced points out the difference between "feel" and "video".

Many many professional players say they swing down. Yet the video shows they don't.

As a coach, you'd better be teaching "feel" and explainging "video" than the other way around.

Clearly, the hands start at a position higher than they are at contact. They HAVE to go down.

Equally clearly is the barrel goes up through contact.

You can easily reconcile these two when you learn the details of how the swing is Hands and Hips.

You have to remove the arms from the swing. Which means you have to remove shoulder rotation from the swing. Only then will you 'understand' how the hands go down and the barrel goes up.
