I've been reading some of the site and the theory sounds great, especially since u scientifically backed it up. I just don't understand where you stand if you had a 5'6' guy who weighs 150. Are you telling me that he too could hit a ball 500 ft with the right hip rotation and torque? The problem with a lot of hitting theories is they neglect the guy who isnt as big as the others. You mention Bonds, Bagwell, and Sosa who together could move a mack truck. Eckstein and Ferqal are great players but can't hit the ball that far. Are they not setting good enough goals? I think mass of the player definietely has something to do with it.

What do you think?

I AGREE WITH "COACH C" BUT WOULD ESPECIALLY EMPHASIZE MECHANICS. IN ROBERT K. ADAIR'S BOOK THE PHYSICS OF BASEBALL HE TALKS ABOUT OPTIMUM ANGLES TO HIT AN INCOMING PITCH FOR THE MOST DISTANCE. KEN GRIFFEY JR. IN THE HOME RUN CONTESTS WAS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A PLAYER USING THE OPTIMUM ANGLE TO HIT CONSISTENTLY LONG HOME RUNS ON VARIOUS PITCHES. IN ADDITION HE WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT AN AVID WEIGHT LIFTER OR PERFORMANCE INHANCED SUPPLEMENT OR DRUG USER. TED WILLIAMS ALSO SEEMED TO HAVE THE OPTIMUM BAT ANGLE TO LAUNCH HOMERUNS. MOST SMALLER PLAYERS LIKE ECKSTEIN DO NOT HAVE OR ARE TAUGHT NOT TO USE HOMERUN TYPE MECHANICS TO BEST SERVE THEIR TEAMS. RICKEY HENDERSON IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A PLAYER IS IS VERY STRONG BUT WAS NOT KNOWN FOR HITTING TAPE MEASURE TYPE HOMERUN. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL THOUGH THE STRONGER PLAYER SHOULD HIT MORE HOMERUNS. BRET BOONE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A SMALLER (STRONG) PLAYER WHO HAS BIG POWER TO ALL FIELDS. FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYER LOU WHITAKER ALSO HAD GOOD POWER (5"11 160 POUNDS) AND HIT ONE ON THE ROOF AT TIGER STADIUM!

Mechanics comes first (Batspeed at contact), then strength within those mechanics. Mighty Mouse could hit farther than Eckstein if he was stronger. Size matters when the size equates to strength. Bonds hits the ball farther because he's stronger, which made him bigger. If mass mattered we'd all wear a 50 lb waist belt for more mass. McGwire was strong, Eckstein is not.
