I think you guys may have not cosidered another possibility. The cocked bat position ... two 45 degree angles and close to the point of the rear shoulder APPLIES PRESSURE TO THE HANDS not visa versa. The pressure is in the form of inertia at heel drop. When the bat is positioned perfectly it resist motion and allows the hips to get a good head start creating separation. The cocked bat has farther to travel allowing more time for acceleration to the best contact point which is between the balls of the feet.
An uncocked bat usually accelerates to a point out front making players instinctively try to hit the ball out front. I bet they both travel about the same distance if you measured it. The cocked bat hits during acceleration and the uncocked bat might hit during deceleration.
