My experience is that pop ups are usually the result of getting jammed and hitting off the handle. Popups can also come off the end of the bat but it is far less frequent.
Why do hitters get jammed. Slow hips and shoulders. Why do hitters have slow hips and shoulders??? Poor technique. The answers can be found on this board, Epstein board, the tapes, watching slo mo of the great all time MLB hitters etc. Knowledge + Practice = Skill

Yes indeed!!!! To reach the highest levels of baseball I would encourage a hitter to do reaction and eyesight training.
