Is there a proper way to teach checking your swing so you don't injure your wrists? I know I do it, not sure how to teach someone [I coach 8-9 yr olds right now]

Having coached 7-12 yr olds the last 6 yrs swinging into a heavy bag is a good place to start. I suggest you buy the Batspeed tape and learn the drills and technique from the tape.
