Sosa---is his HR legacy corked???

Posted by: thejuice32 () on Sat Jun 14 09:44:57 2003

I am not sure what to make of the whole sammy sosa thing, especially after watching a tape of the 2002 home run derby. IF you dont remmember, let me refresh your memory: Sosa put on a show to end all shows, he hit ball after ball absolutely rediculous distances. I am pretty sure the numbers were somthing like this: after 20 HR 9 of them were over 500 feet! including 1 out of the stadium and one, off of a Pepsi sign suspended 100 feet in the air and an estimated 420 feet back, this home run was judged as a collosol 545 foot home run!!! PEople are simply not supposed to do this. I now believe, and it kills me to even think it, but i cannot convince myself otherwise, that sammy was using a corked bat at the time. His swing is still amazing, a true piece of baseball beauty, but now i watch him and although he has the same mechanics he struggles to hit balls 375 feet less then a year later. Somthing has to give here. IT makes me sick to wonder how many other players are cheating in order to produce super-human results. I love sammy, just as i admire mark and barry, but this latest incident prompts me to ask a truly sad question: WHEN DO WE DRAW THE LINE ABOUT WHAT IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, AND WHAT IS POSSIBLE ONLY WITH THE HELP OF STEROIDS AND OTHER PERFORMANCE ENHANCING MATERIALS.
