Re: Re: Small Guys?

I've been reading some of the site and the theory sounds great, especially since u scientifically backed it up. I just don't understand where you stand if you had a 5'6' guy who weighs 150. Are you telling me that he too could hit a ball 500 ft with the right hip rotation and torque? The problem with a lot of hitting theories is they neglect the guy who isnt as big as the others. You mention Bonds, Bagwell, and Sosa who together could move a mack truck. Eckstein and Ferqal are great players but can't hit the ball that far. Are they not setting good enough goals? I think mass of the player definietely has something to do with it. What do you think?

Dear Bart,

Point well taken! I'm 5'9", but actually am 201 lbs., so I, myself, am big! (Well, maybe not by today's standards, where some guys, at 5'9", are 220+ lbs).

You brought up a very good point! Let's look at Hack Wilson, 5'6" and 190 lbs., but hit a ball 500 feet at the Polo grounds. If you are short, do not give up hope! Start lifting, and practice hitting everyday. Contrary to Phil Rizzuto, who claims the guys who 5'9" should be single hitters because they are not 6'2", I believe a guy who is 5'9" can sculpt himself into a proper 201 pound frame (solid, flexible muscle with little fat--don't look at body-weight indices, as they claim Arnold Schwartzenager, a sculpted spectrum is in trouble of a heart attack.

Put bluntly: forget height, who cares? Put on muscle mass, and you will be able to "whack" the ball. (I can now hit a bigsoftball 310+ feet; a junior softball, 330-340 feet).

Your statement was brilliant, showing we can change our physiques, and I want to complement you on illustrating your point rather vividly!

Cheers!
