Re: High average hitting

As a high school coach that does not encourage lifting the baseball due to the failure rate against the best pitching, i am looking for video of hitting mechanics. Not a boring istructional sales pitch on a former player/coach breaking down basic hitting that has not changed that much over the last decade or so. I am looking for a collection of game strokes that we can stop and anylize ourselves. Not to be confused with ESPN's version of a great swing that goes real high in the air followed by cutesy sayings like ya-ya, young hitters do not need this kind of education. Does anyone know of a good video or two. I would rather learn from the college level than Pro. Thanks Coach Ken from Alaska

I suggest you tape the ESPN All Star home run hitting contest. Lot's of angles and good slow motion footage. ESPN's monday night game ususally has some good slow motion video. Also ESPN's home run derby program. The nightly FOX or ESPN sportscenter MLB highlights. The highlights always feature the great hits of the day. Tape swings and select the ones you want to model. Here is a URL with some great stil photos Http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/features/2001/bonds/
Jack Mankin's tape or Epsteins get to the point with little fanfare. They also have some good drills and explain the rotatinal swing which will help you along. Most important stay open to new ideas. Keep reading, watching, experimenting and never stop learning.
