My swing

Posted by: Brian () on Mon Jun 9 13:43:30 2003

Pretty new to the site, so I thought I would see if I could get some general input on my swing (since you can't really watch my swing).

I'm primarily a for-fun cage-hitting guy, though I find swinging the bat is a good mental exercise (kind of like the way martial arts help with focus), so I do take it somewhat seriously.

I've found myself most comfortable and successful in the following set-up. I'm a right-handed hitter:

Stance is slightly open, though slightly more closed than L. Gonzalez. I normally choke up about an inch or so from the knob with my hands slightly apart (typically an inch or so). Knocking knuckles are lined up, with my right thumb directly on top of the bat. Bat is cocked over right shoulder at about a 60 degree angle (sometimes straight-up ala Sosa).

I lead pretty well with my hips when swinging, and usually end up ala Bonds or Steve Finley on the heel of my left foot with my left leg completely straight. A 33" inch Rawlings 302F with a full cup is what I'm using right now, and feels the best. I feel significantly slower swinging 34". I don't know what the weight is.

I'm pretty much a pull to center hitter, and very rarely hit to right. I have no idea about distance, because I hit in the cage. When I foul something off, it tends to go straight up over the plate (usually hitting the chain link top and coming right back down on to home).

Thoughts? Suggestions?
