Re: slicing the ball - help!

Hi Chris,

The flight of every ball that is hit is an obvious indicator of the swing.

Trust your instincts. It is not a good swing if the result is a weak pop up to the opposite field. Especially if it happens consistently.

If your son is practicing a swing that you described as looking correct with his mechanics and his result is...(front hip and shoulder pulling off the ball, with dramatic uppercut that causes no extension through the ball)...(oh and his head is never still or on the ball)...The source of the problem is this...Maybe what you have been taught to be "good mechanics" aren't so good.

The rotation of hips and shoulders should not be a focal point in hitting mechanics, rather a result.

Conscious hip and shoulder rotation along with lateral tilt of the torso is the direct cause of you son hitting the ball weakly into the air to the second-baseman.

When he achieves proper balance, rythm of weight shift, and head position throughout his swing...his bat-path will produce the ball flight that he so desires.

Good luck!

Jimmy
