One of my sons little league coaches teaches that "softball slap" swing. He uses that Ken Griffey Jr. batting tee to teach them to hit down on the ball in a linear fashion. His ideal hit is a grounder between 2nd and 3rd. My son is a rotational hitter who tries to match the arc of his swing to the arc of the ball which gives him a slight upper cut. The coach put him of the Griffey tee and he almost busted it. He jumped all over my son for not swinging down on the ball and not extending his arms. I finally told the coach that I was teaching rotational mechanics and I would appreciate it if he left my son's swing alone. And for the most part he has. Now the season is over and guess who had the highest BA, slugging pct, and onbase pct? The only batter who wouldn't listen to the coach.
