I couldn't disagree with you more! You obviously haven't watched the college games that have been televised recently. Slapping and dragging have a place in the game of fastpitch, no doubt but more and more colleges are producing ladies with much more power and you are seeing more home runs in this game than ever before. You don't get a home run off a slap or drag. Arizona produces some of the best hitters in the league. There are no short, shoulder to shoulder swings in that group. Kim Carter with FSU last year crushed the ball (Gary Carters Daugter) and she was definately not a punching Judy. Sorry, but this comment was way off! Give pitchers the credit they deserve. They can make a rise ball end up 10 inches over the strike zone but isn't that where a more discipline hitter doesn't get fooled into a pitch. Don't swing at it!
I am not a fan of sime umpires we get either but most in our tournament level are fair with the strike zone and it usually goes both ways. Some umpires like high pitches and some like low pitches. Figure it out early in your game and adjust!
