Re: left handed batter problems

Posted by: 44 () on Wed Apr 16 19:18:03 2003

over the last two weeks, i have had problems with my swing causing the ball to go to left field in the air. My coach says I left hand position is flat with palm side up at contact, instead of rolled over a little farther causing my problem. Could that be true and what can I do to over come it in the batting cage.

Sounds like a similar problem we had earlier this season...do you "crouch" or "hunch over" in your stance? If so, your head and shoulders may be "off-plane" which will prevent your bat from getting in line with the pitch. The cure is to keep your eyes level with the ground in a bit more upright posture. This will allow your shoulders to rotate more fully around and you will be in a better swing plane. The result will be hard line drives to the gaps (both sides).

You should more fully describe your stance and posture when you hit.
